My dream has always been to travel Africa on a motorcycle.
What was initially a self-serving dream has turned out to be something that has also brought happiness and excitement to others. I have realised that people often experience life through others, and as a result of all the emails, messages, calls and social media interest I went about creating the Nomadic Ginger blog and dedicated Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thenomadicginger), so that others can easily follow my adventures when they happen.
In developing all this, I also felt that I needed to find a way in which I could give something back to society; I could do more with my travels than simply riding through this powerful continent for my own pleasure. So I have been considering various charities and organisations that work within Africa, and I think I might have just stumbled across one that I can truly relate to - Riders for Health.
These guys are doing great things in sub-Saharan Africa, by managing and maintaining vehicle fleets that enable health workers to navigate their way in to hard-to-reach areas in order to provide those in need with vital medical assistance. Go check them out here - http://www.riders.org/
Now that I've found a organisation that I'd like to support, all I have to do is figure out a way in which to do so! Until that happens, please spend some time on their website. Perhaps some of you might have ideas or suggestions?
Let's hear them!
